History
Our background
Starspray Studios Ltd. was founded in 2024 by Sean Browning (he/him), an animator, artist, and hobbyist game developer based in Toronto, ON, Canada. The studio was established following grant funding provided by the Ontario Creates 2023 IDM Futures Forward program. With years of professional experience in animation and a deep passion for game development, Sean transitioned from hobby projects to launching an indie game studio.
As Starspray Studios Ltd.
Retroronto is the studio’s debut project—a heartfelt arcade-style city-life simulator inspired by its home city of Toronto. Initially born from a casual hobby project spurred on from a music video, Retroronto has since grown into a full-scale business endeavor. The game is set for release on Steam in 2025-2026, aiming to capture the spirit of Toronto through retro-inspired gameplay and storytelling.

Retroronto is an arcade-style life simulator set in a pixel-art reimagining of Toronto, Canada. As a newly arrived resident in this sprawling metropolis, it’s up to you to carve out your place in the city, and to remain as long as you can.
Balance your time, money, and energy as you navigate daily life: working to pay rent, uncovering hidden gems across the city, and connecting with its residents to open up new opportunities and locations.
At its heart, Retroronto is a cautious love letter to Toronto—the joys, challenges, and stories that make it unlike any other city. Inspired by life simulators and retro games set in contemporary worlds, Retroronto invites players to experience the hustle and charm of urban life. Whether you’re racing against the clock or taking it all in, this game is perfect for fans of fast-paced decision-making and life-management systems.
